Abstract

This concise report presents the pricing and reimbursement policy framework for medical devices in France in 2022. It was produced as part of the activities of the PPRI Subgroup on Medical Devices. The PPRI Medical Devices Briefs Series complements the medicines-related series of the PPRI Pharma Briefs launched in 2019. This PPRI Medical Devices Brief on France is the first of the PPRI Medical Devices Briefs series. In French hospitals, use of medical devices is funded through a performance-based Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) system. In outpatient care in France, medical devices with similar characteristics as other devices already included in reimbursement and some procedures, in in which medical devices are applied, are also funded by the social health insurance. In addition, selected new medical devices of the outpatient and inpatient sectors are eligible for public funding after a positive outcome of a Health Technology Assessment and successful price negotiations.
