Abstract

The first wave of the Corona pandemic (March – May 2020) coincided with our national general population survey. A second survey wave was conducted among the same sample in autumn 2020. Results indicate that the majority of respondents did not change their consumption behaviour in a significant way. For some substances women were more likely to increase substance use and in general young people changed their behaviour more frequently than older people. The sharpest increase was observed for gaming, the sharpest decrease for gambling. In another project qualitative interviews were conducted with senior officials from regional drug authorities. According to their assessment, clients who start treatment and clients with dual diagnoses were effected the most. Furthermore, different segments of drug services faced different challenges, e.g. switching to E-health services, introducing strict hygiene measures or discontinued services.
